Introduction

egbook is a simple but feature-complete guestbook script written in PHP. It does not need a database as it stores all of its information in text files.

Features

egbook has several features:

• Easy installation: You can be ready in 5 minutes!
• Unlimited number of entries
• Entries stored in text files (no need for MySQL or any other database!)
• You can define an unlimited number of fields!
• Mandatory fields: You can set as many of the fields to be mandatory
• Smileys: egbook recognises several smileys (emoticons) in the entries and replaces them with graphics
• Fully customisable: egbook can be fully customised to fit into your website
• Valid XHTML output: egbook's output validates as XHTML.
• Stripping of HTML: egbook does not allow HTML.

Installation and Usage

egbook is easy to install.

• Firstly, download the egbook zip file.
• Secondly, unzip the file to somewhere on your computer. You will get a folder (directory) called egbook. Inside this folder, there are 2 folders and several files.
• Follow the installation instructions in the install.html file.

Fields

One of the most powerful features of egbook is that it allows you an unlimited number of fields that you define. That is, there are no hard-coded fields: You can define the fields and their names, and egbook will work with all of them! Further, you can make as many of these fields mandatory, and egbook will not save an entry unless all mandatory fields are filled in.
